What do dealerships do with vehicles that aren't sold for that model year?
Alright, so it's 2008. I'm sure there are plenty of brand new 2007 vehicles that were never sold. And, is it too far of a stretch to say that there are 2006 vehicles that were never sold?
I know they always have "blowout sales" to get rid of them, but I'm sure they are left with some that never get sold.
What do car dealerships do with them? Send them back to the manufacturer?
I'm just curious! Thanks!
The dealerships simply keep them until they sell. They mark down the prices. Once my parents purchased a new vehicle when it was 2 months into the next model year. They got a heck of a good deal on it. Also dealerships can shuffle cars around from one dealer to another. Say you come in looking for a blue 2008 Honda Civic and they dont have any, they might call around to different dealerships in the area to find you one. This is one way to get rid of excess cars.
Car manufacturers know how many cars to build, so they dont end up with a flood of cars that dont sell. They dont build all of the cars at once either. They slowly build them overtime during the model year. If sales start to slump off they slow down production so they dont make too many. If they start getting a demand for a certain car they up the production.
Its a balancing act really.
