Is fetishism more often a male phenomena than female?
Does anyone have any knowledge of females with fetishes? Of course this relies on your definition of fetishism, but I'm still interested to hear all thoughts. I'm curious to learn why it could be that men are more likely to develop fetishes, and if this seems untrue - what peoples experiences/readings tell them. One thing I've read is that it's easier for men to get them than women: Bancroft, 1989, says "it is postulated that the lack a clear genital signal in women protects against learning sexual responses to abnormal stimuli."
Points of interest:
"Fetishism is significantly more common for males than for females" – Sexual Deviance, The Guildford Press, 1997
"Sixty per cent of the visitors to last year's Erotica show in London were women"
– The Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/love-sex/fantasies-fetishes/the-facts-of-life-fantasies--fetishes-936016.html)
I'm a girl and I'm a fetishist. Not going into what it actually is, but it is out of the ordinary.
