Which is the best affordable online payment gateway?

I need to setup and online payment gateway for one of my commerce site. I don't anticipate huge volumes of transaction so I would prefer to go for much affordable gateway; preferably which onetime payment rather than monthly. Can someone suggest few?
I'm looking at Credit Card gateways to be more specific.

What you're looking for seems to be a Third Party Processor as opposed to a true Payment Gateway. Payment gateways just act like credit card terminals do in a retail store. They don't actually process credit cards for you. You need a true merchant account for that. Then together they can make your website process payments. This means you will have monthly costs from the merchant account and payment gateway.

A third party processor (there are several of them and they all work differently) generally only charges you per transaction. This means you only pay a fee if you actually accept a credit card payment through them. For low volume merchants like your self, this tends to be the most cost effective way to accept credit cards payments.

If you are looking for a third party processor, Paypal is easily the most popular and overall the best. Alternatives include AlertPay and 2CheckOut.

If you really are looking for a payment gateway I recommend Authorize.Net. They are easily the most popular payment gateway in use today. They are also very easy to use and integrate into a website. Other alternatives include the LinkPoint API and Paypal's Payflow Pro (which used to be owned by Verisign).
