Can I hook an electric guitar to computer speakers?
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I was wondering if I were to get the appropriate adapters (1/4" mono male to 1/8" female), is there any reason it wouldn't work to just plug a set speakers with their own built in amplifier up to an electric guitar?
Would the signal not be strong enough from the guitar - like it would need a pre-amp?
The reason I ask is that I have an old electric guitar I bought years ago that I've just been using as decoration hanging on the wall. I'm curious if it's in working order, but don't want to buy an amp to find out that it's proper place is staying on the wall.
You need a pre-amp. The pickups are electromagnetic and therefore need a powered amplifier to pick up the signal from the strings.
