Ankle & leg really hurt..i'm desperate 10pts?!?

I broke my ankle and lower leg.. I was in a fiberglass cast for 6 weeks. Now I'm in an aircast boot (like this.. http://www.aircast.com/index.asp/fuseaction/products.detail/cat/2/id/76) The doctor said I could put pressure on my leg as long as I'm wearing the boot. Well it doesn't hurt to walk but it really hurts to walk around long distance or going up and down stairs. After awhile I have to lean on someone because my leg is just too sore. How can I help the pain? When I sit down I usually take my boot off and my leg is always super swollen. What can I do for the swelling? Thanks!
