How do I properly focus my digital camera?

I have a Cannon A590 IS Digital Camera. Whenever I try to take a close up picture of a still object, say, a coin; I place the camera on macro, focus the Lens, and as soon as I press the shutter release the lens to shoot the lcd blurs and my pictures come out all blurry. Can someone help and tell me why?

Blurred pictures are the result of slow shutter speed, camera shake.

To get a faster shutter speed (which the camera chooses) on a point and shoot camera, you need to increase the ISO. Press MENU and look for ISO or it might be in SETUP. Change it from AUTO to a high number which is 400 800 1600 3200.

You can mount the camera on a tripod (large or small) to reduce camera shake.

Since your camera has IS (image stabilization) you can also turn IS to ON.

You can also use FLASH, so turn the flash ON (the camera chooses a shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/125 (which should reduce blurring) and the flash only lights for 1/thousandths of a second..
